Im still waiting for spell check

Heh, time to download firefox! Built in spellchecking! :)

I agree that chat would be a cool feature.

I noticed a couple recent comments about adding a chatroom. Just an FYI, there is actually already a chatroom, but it's usually pretty quiet. Up in the upper right hand corner, there is a link for "Chat" followed by the # of users currently chatting in brackets. Maybe it's quiet cuz no one knows about it :?:

Sounds good to me... If you get another vote, I'll create it tomorrow.

I think a tentative hand-raising only officially counts as a half vote :)

Joel,
Good enough for me. Would you want to write up some rules/guidelines for this forum?

You can base your post on my vendor feedback rules/guidelines post found here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=206

I think it will be important to lay some ground rules and guidelines as to what is an acceptable post, making sure that only those with experience of a product are the ones giving their opinion on it. I personally don't want it to be a here-say forum. We have ReefCentral for that ;)

I think we do need to allow people who do have first-hand experience with the equipment/product to call it crap if it's crap and not beat around the bush trying not to offend anyone. This forum needs to be about honest opinions with examples of why the post author thinks the equipment either works well or doesn't and forum posters need to be aware that while some people may have problems with a certain piece of equipment other's may not so don't get into a war of words with somebody...stick to the facts that you personally know to be true and let other forum viewers draw their own conclusions as to if they would want to purchase that equipment/product themselves. Let's not forget that we can always PM somebody asking for more info if we feel that an argument could ensue if we continued the asking questions on a post where there are people for and against a product.

I guess I didn't consider the "argument" aspect of it, or that stating a disapproval for a certain product might be offensive to someone who had the product and liked it. I was thinking of it more from a perspective of reviewing interesting new products that most people had never tried. But, I could see people potentially getting bash-happy in there. But, I guess that's a risk we run in all the forums.

Edit-

Not sure if I understand where you're coming from, but I said that I didn't want people commenting on things they don't have first-hand experience with. I don't care if you call the Vortec a piece of crap, but you better be running a vortec on your tank in order to post it. The one thing I hate about reef central is the bunch of equipment nerds that call something crap, just because it isn't what they own. If you are going to post your opinion, it better be based off fact and not "what you heard on reef central".

That's was my point.

Yup, that's what I think to. I guess my point was if a person has first-hand experience (i.e.-your line about vortec's) they need to feel free to call it crap if they own it and have had troubles with it and provide examples of what troubles they have had and not feel as if they can't give their honest opinion about it because someone else may not agree with it. Bottom line is I think this forum could be a very useful tool (especially to a beginner in the hobby, could save them from investing their money on junk that won't really work well for their tank)...IF used appropriately!!!

Erik, I was looking today, and it seems like the advertisements are running a little fast? I was having a hard time reading them and seems they are kind enough to pay maybe we should give them more time between changes ?Just my 2 cents :)

Andy, maybe if you'd stop clicking on the threads so fast, you'd be able to read them

Seriously, the advertisements only change when you click a link on the page. I don't control how fast that reefs2go banner moves. It does go a little fast
