Looking for a Refugium

Postby floydfan786 on Wed Mar 03, 2010 5:22 am

I know I can build a Refugium, but hell if I can find a good one already built for a fair price I might go for that. Well I have a 75 gal tank looking for a Refugium. I already have a skimmer so just looking for a refugium.

Check PA, they usually have some used refugiums for sale. Other than that I would just build my own as you can save quite a bit of money if you're willing to spend the time it takes to build one yourself.
A case of beer: $15

Frag Mounting Supplies: $20

A high speed rotary tool: $30

Being able to frag a $300+ coral with a steady hand before you're too drunk and have super glued your fingers together...priceless!!!

Yeah, PA has a new one, but it is too small. Nothing used right now. I do have a 10 gal tank I could make one out of. Is there any instructions out there for this, I have seen some but they are not too clear.

Follow this link...

http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html

...it's very helpful when attempting to build your own sump/refugium. Scroll down until you see the heading "Do you have any examples" and under there click on the 14g sump/refugium, it's a little bigger than a 10g but you could easily adapt basic design to a 10g tank.

I got my design from Melevsreef.com and I basically custom built it to the size I wanted. It wasn't cheap, tho. For longevity and no cracking, it should be made from cast acrylic which is pricey. I bought mine from Vermont plastics. The guy gave me 1/2" for the same price as 3/8" because he had some smaller pieces kicking around. It still cost me $200 but it's 40+ gallons and way better then anything from Marine Depot or elsewhwere for the money. Also, it's a sump/refugium combined. They will make the precision cuts for you as well, if you give them your dimensions, which is nice.
