How's everybody's tanks going???

Postby Erik on Fri Jul 09, 2010 7:57 am

Just trying to liven up the place a bit ;-)

My 75 was doing fine when I saw it last weekend :? I'll be heading over to the in-laws again this weekend to pick up some live rock and maybe a couple inverts to throw in the 180. It really needs SOMETHING! The 180 is running fine, it's heating and recirculating, but that's about it. Still just dead rock in the display. Not sure if it's throwing a cycle, but probably won't see much until I throw in the live rock.

This hot weather has certainly been tough on my humidity issues in the basement. My cold-water lines were sweating so bad, I had a puddle of water on my basement floor. I made a trip to Sears and bought a dehumidifier and it has helped quite a bit. The great thing about the dehumidifier is that it has a pump for the water collection system. The hose for the pump is 1/4" RO line :D Since I don't have a drain in the basement, I'll tie it into my RODI waste line with a check valve and not have to worry about emptying the bucket!

Mine are running HOT mid 80's, hopefully by this afternoon they will be back around 80. My past heat issues were attributed to a stuck heater, before this heat wave I was running in the upper 70's to 80. Everything is looking ok, but haven't been running the lights too often so things are closed up. My 2.5 gallon crab tank has gone though the temp swings as well, with a box fan running on it at night it gets back down to 78.

Marie's tank got up to 82 the other day and I had to hook the fan up to it.
I have it controlled with a Reefkeeper2, so it's fine now, but it was amazing how hot it was getting even with a huge amount of water in the basement.

Humidity really is our worst enemy...

Glad to see everyone participating in the discussion tho

Mine's back in the low 80's, I can drop it to 80 with a gallon of ice. Even around 83 the nepthia is open. If I keep the windows open and fans going on the cool nights, then close up the house in the morning, I can keep it within a degree or two of room temp which is my goal. I'm not a big fan of relying on AC, too much space in my lower house to cool, plus this is Vermont, it does cool off below 70 every night, take advantage and open the windows.

I've had some snails die recently, not sure if I should blame the heat, old age, or lack of that particular algae they desire, on that note found a small trochus snail in the refug tank, assuming successful spawn from adults. I've seen it before in my previous tanks.

Mine looks like crap right now. I have such an algee issue I need a weed whacker. Working with Jason from PA about this. In the prosess of setting up a refugium now. Just having some issues with that and hope to have that worked out soon.
If i can not get this fixed soon I might do an "algee only tank"
Oh yeah, on top of that, my light died on my main tank. Only a ballest that went. Found one on line for 27 bucks, so my UV lights are out for a couple days untill they arive and I can fix that.

Well I got the refugium set up finally. Thank you Jason at PA for all the help. Now lets see if this will clear up the forest of algee I have. I hope that I do not get in trouble with act 250 for removing so much algee.
I have noticed that my temp is now about 3 degrees cooler with the refugium running too now. Not a bad thing. :)

nk. Yesterday I saw the temp at 68 in the morning so I finally shut off the AC and opened some windows. But the humidity was still so high, as soon as that humid air filled the room a couple hours later the fan kicked right back on and the temp started climbing again.

Hope it works out for you- I think it will. I hooked up a fuge a few months ago and it has worked great. Even unhooked my phosphate reactor.

FloydFan I believe Joel has a phosphate reactor for sale as a result of that and it may be something you'd want to look into as phosphates are what feeds algae.
A case of beer: $15

Frag Mounting Supplies: $20

A high speed rotary tool: $30

Being able to frag a $300+ coral with a steady hand before you're too drunk and have super glued your fingers together...priceless!!!
