Maple's 90 gallon build

Postby Maple on Wed Jul 21, 2010 10:38 am

I'm the third owner of this tank. A good friend of mine (whom I met throw a local club) went and bought this thank one friday night in Athens Georgia. He had it set up for a good 8 months before he had to break it down because he thought he was moving. I paid $300 bucks for the canopy, tank, stand, sump and GFO reactor. He had an IceCap 660 6 bulb retro kit but at the time I didn't have the money. Well he sold it to another friend (whom I ended up meeting down the road when he was breaking his tank down to a deployment being in the A.F.) As of right now my equipment list consist of:

Sump: A 30 gallon sump
Skimmer: Elos ns-1000 being pushed by a Ehiem 1260.
Lighting: Retro fit T5's powered by a IC660 overdriving four bulbs and a ballast (unsure what brand) running the actinic bulbs.
Heaters: Two aqua heat's
Return pump: Mag 9 (if I am not mistaken)
Powerheads: Two MP40w's
Live rock: 70lbs (give or take)
Live sand: 60lbs (give or take) Appears to be Fiji Pink
Test kits: Elos
Rodi: AWI 150g Typhoon extreme 3 that I won :D (currently looking for a booster pump)
Controller: Aquacontroller 3 (currently hunting a DC8)
Future plans consist of:

ATO: Elos or JBJ
Ca Reactor or dosing 2 part BRS

Fish list: Two ORA Black and white clowns and hopefully they will host my GBTA with purple tips. (10" or so open)
A baby two inch hippo tang
Moorish Idol (the king of my tank and the fish that got me into this hobby.)

Coral list: Small colony of Peach colored birdsnest
ORA Green Stylophora
Red Monticap
Green Pocillopora
One head of frogspawn
3 heads of neon green candy canes
Tan Monti Cap with neon blue polyps

I am going to attempt to make this tank a full blown reef (hopefully the idol doesn't change that.) This will be my first attempt at this so get ready for the questions!

I will be updating this as I go, so please, ANY help/tips/tricks/criticism is wanted!

A MOORISH IDOL TAKE IT BACK NOW IT'S NEVER GONNA LIVE!!!!
Just kidding... The tank looks great and do I spy 2 MP40w's on a 4ft tank? JEALOUSSSSSSSSS. 8-)

I am trying to get rid of my light hood (2x250w and 2x54w T-5s) and can't sell it. Maybe I can trade it for another MP40.

Hahaha. Sometimes I wonder about him. But, I do know they are almost impossible to keep long term. Hopefully that will change from the behavior we learn from them so we can mimiac their diet. My all time favorite fish.

As far as the vortechs go, I tried getting you in on the deal. 350 a piece, brand new shipped to your door.
