frogspawn vs nepthea

Postby joel1234567 on Wed Jul 21, 2010 2:01 pm

I've been wondering if there would be a problem if LPS and leather corals were physically touching. I've got a green nepthea that I placed pretty close to a frogspawn. One of the nepthea branches are rubbing up against the frogspawn. I thought I might just see one of them shrinking up and not expanding much.

I noticed today that the frogspawn looks like it has ejected it's guts out the side of the coral and has completely encased the tip of the nepthea in the sticky threads and is now dissolving the tip of that nepthea branch. Very interesting- I def would not have expected to see that. Luckily it's just the very tip of the nepthea so not too much damage. I tried to get a photo but I can't get it into focus.

One of my frogspawns bit me the other day, and it hurt some. Have also had it fall and start to kill a montipora, and it does sting leathers as well.

It bit you?

I've heard that some of the LPS- like frogspawn- packed a pretty potent sting, which SPS and other LPS def don't like. But I thought leather's were fairly unaffected by the effects of being stung (not that I really have much reason for thinking that). I guess if the stinging doesnt work, the frogspawn must resort to dissolving it instead.

Bit, stung, same to me; I did not like the stinging afterward :). I have a frogspawn that the current blows a few tentacles against a toadstool, and wherever it touches the toadstool does not have any of those feeler things out. Kinda leaves a spot that looks like beard stubble. Have not seen any tissue death yet, but moved them just in case.
